SHANE SAYS 'NICE ONE' TO HOURS CHANGE LAW

New extension of licensing hours to be In place in time for Olympics.

Over the last couple of months there has been a whole lot of feuding between the City and the licensees. A bill was put forward to extend hours for food primary licensees, which sounds great and it is. What wasn't so great was what else was proposed: a strict 50/50 booze to food ratio, a ridiculous rule considering the price of alcohol in this city; and a removal of all grandfather licenses, much to the anger of licensees who've paid top dollar for these licenses.

So, this week, to the relief of most bar/restaurant owners in the city, it appears as though the extension of hours to 1am during the week and 2am Friday and Saturday have in fact been approved. In addition it appears as though the 50/50 rule has been discarded and grandfather licenses are staying in place.

So, after months of bitter feuding, it all seems to have ended for the best. These hour changes should all be conveniently in place, all wrapped up in time for the Olympics.
